Do you feel as vibrant as you did when you were 25? Does your figure reflect all the hard work you’re doing at the gym? Are you fueling your body with great food and nutrients for good skin tone? You may be doing everything right, but still see your face aging as the years go by due to gravity, time, and sun damage which you can not control.

You may be thinking about having a facelift and are asking questions such as:

  • I’m 65 and want to look refreshed. Is a facelift right for me?
  • I’ve had some health issues. Does that mean a facelift isn’t in the cards for me?
  • I smoked for a few years, but I quit five years ago. Will that affect my results?
  • I want to look 35 again. Is that possible?
  • Can I actually get a natural looking facelift and not look “done”?

ARE YOU A GOOD PROSPECT FOR A FACELIFT?

Dr. Kessler can’t determine if a facelift is right for you until he sees you in person, takes a health history, and discusses what you’d like to see in your reflection after your facelift. However, here are some general guides of who should do well in surgery and be happy with the results.

  • Age isn’t necessarily a factor

Dr. Kessler has performed facelifts with great success on people as young as 40 and as old as 80. More important is your overall health and the condition of your skin and underlying facial muscles. For example, someone in their 40s with considerable sun damage, sagging facial skin and poor underlying muscle tone can still have a facelift, but their results won’t be the same as those for a 62-year old with little-to-no sun damage and better facial tone.

In general, someone who has facial and neck skin that has started to sag but whose skin still retains elasticity and whose bone structure is well-defined, is the best facelift candidate regardless of their age. Inelastic skin will require further treatment beyond the facelift such as laser resurfacing or chemical peels to achieve a more complete rejuvenation.

  • Your expectations should be realistic

The best facelifts look natural without a skin-so-taut-it-looks-wind-swept appearance. A facelift will make you look well-rested and refreshed. They tend to tighten the skin enough that you look more youthful and you’ll appear like the vibrant, healthy person you are. What’s more, most of Dr. Kessler’s patients report that they feel and look about 10 years younger.

So if you’re 70 and want to look 40, you should adjust your expectations. Dr. Kessler will talk with you in detail regarding what to expect after a facelift.

Rest assured, we are certain you’ll be pleased with your appearance!

  • You should be in good health

A facelift is a major procedure including general anesthesia so your current health is important to consider. You may still be a good candidate even if you have high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, depression, or if you smoke or drink. You can discuss any health issues with Dr. Kessler during your initial consultation to determine what is the best option for you. We urge you to be open and honest with your surgeon regarding your personal habits and any health issues for which you currently are undergoing treatment.

No matter your age, condition of your skin or your health, we hope you contact us to discuss what you’d like to achieve with a facelift. You could well be pleasantly surprised about what can be accomplished!
