Breast Augmentation with Lift
Unfortunately, as women age, their skin begins to lose its elasticity. This may be seen on many areas of the body, but none are as prominent as the breasts. The heavy tissue will eventually cause the nipple and breast to descend on the chest.
These changes are often made worse by childbirth, breast-feeding, and fluctuations in weight. In addition to lax tissue, women may see a decrease in breast volume; this will cause the chest to lose shape and form, as well as a reduction in upper pole fullness (the top portion of the breast).
To counteract these changes, a Breast Augmentation paired with a Breast Lift, can restore a firm and shapely chest. Also known as an Augmentation Mastopexy, the surgical technique is a combination of two invasive procedures. By grouping these two methods, breast volume can be increased, sagging breast tissue eliminated, and the nipple repositioned to a youthful height. Tissue of the breasts will be tightened and upper pole fullness restored.
Why Choose a Breast Augmentation with a Lift?
Both a Breast Augmentation and a Breast Lift can be performed independently of each other. However, a single procedure may not correct the existing problems, it may even make them more pronounced. If the skin is losing elasticity, placing an implant will make the breasts stretch further.
This can look unnatural and unpleasant. A Breast Lift will raise the tissue of the chest, and reposition the areola, but it does nothing for lost volume. The breasts may even become smaller/flatter as the excess chest tissue is removed.
You may want to consider an Augmentation Mastopexy if your breasts
- Begin to noticeably sag.
- Have lost their shape and volume.
- Are becoming elongated.
- Have nipples that point downward.
- An areola that becomes larger.
- Hang asymmetrically.
The Augmentation Mastopexy will have dramatic benefits. Improving chest contour and adding proportion can restore a youthful appearance. Clothes will fit better. Most importantly, an Augmentation Mastopexy will improve body image, providing women with an added sense of confidence.
The Ideal Candidate
Any woman experiencing a change in the volume, shape, or elasticity of her breast tissue may benefit from an Augmentation Mastopexy. The ideal patient will be someone in overall good health, with reasonable surgical expectations. Prior to scheduling an Augmentation Mastopexy, a consultation appointment will be set up with Dr. Kessler to determine if the procedure is right for an individual situation.
A Breast Augmentation plus Breast Lift will take between two and three hours to complete. The outpatient procedure is performed under general anesthesia. First, Dr. Kessler will create pockets within each breast and insert the implant. Once the desire shape has been achieved, Dr. Kessler will proceed on with the Breast Lift.
Breast Augmentation is the most popular invasive cosmetic procedure today. This is for good reason; the results from a Breast Augmentation are life changing. Breast Augmentation can benefit the body in several ways.
Implants can increase the breast’s size, improve the overall contour of the chest, enhance the size of the chest (either minimally or dramatically), as well as restore the appearance after injury or breast surgery.
Without going too large, a woman can still achieve fuller breasts and increase her chest proportion. She may, however, decide to go up several cup sizes for a more dramatic, feminine change. The procedure is safe and efficient, with minimal recovery time.
- Can be performed with Saline or Silicone Gel implants.
- A wide variety of implant sizes are available.
- To reach the desired look, implants can be smooth or textured, with a several different profiles (shape).
- Implants placed through a small incision around the areola or under the arm.
- Scarring from Breast Augmentation is minimal.
There are several types of Breast Lifts available: the Concentric Lift (minor lift with resized areola), the Vertical or “Lollipop” Lift (moderate lift with a resized areola), and the Full/Standard Lift (correction for severe sagging and reducing the areola size).
- Procedure will eliminate excess skin and tissue.
- Nipple will be raised to a youthful position.
- The size/shape of the areola can be made smaller.
- The incision will run around the areola, vertically from the nipple, and then horizontally along the breast crease.
- Scarring along the incision lines will occur.
Women should expect their recovery time, after a Breast Augmentation with Lift, to take about a week. Initially, patients may experience mild swelling and bruising. These will dissipate over the first week after surgery. Mild discomfort may be experienced. Dr. Kessler will prescribe appropriate pain medications for patient comfort.
Patients are normally feeling well enough to return to work in less than a week. Strenuous activity, exercise, and lifting should be put on hold for four to six weeks.
An Augmentation Mastopexy will result in scarring. The incision to place the implant will create a very small scar around the areola, under the breast and in the underarm. The Breast Lift can create a circumareolar scar, around the areola, vertically down the breast, and across the breast crease.
The Potential Complications
Both the Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift procedures are considered extremely safe. Research has shown that by combining the Breast Augmentation with a Breast Lift holds no more risks than the individual procedures do on their own. Complications are a rare occurrence, but as with any surgical procedure, the risk is present.
The problems associated with a Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift may include bleeding, unexpected scarring, infection, loss of nipple sensation, asymmetry, and delayed wound healing. A patient’s best defense against any complications is to use a reputable, experienced plastic surgeon for their procedure.
Kessler Plastic Surgery has been providing Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift procedures for over a decade. Board Certified in both plastic and general surgery, Dr. Kessler is considered one of the top plastic surgeons in southern California.
Who is a good candidate for a Breast Augmentation with a Lift?
Any woman experiencing sagging breasts with diminishing volume may make an excellent candidate for a Breast Augmentation and Lift.
How long will the Breast Augmentation with a Lift take to perform?
Dr. Kessler’s Breast Augmentation procedure, combined with a Breast Lift, will take from three to five hours to complete.
When can I return to work after a Breast Augmentation and Lift?
On average, patients undergoing a Breast Augmentation and Lift at Kessler Plastic Surgery will be feeling well enough to return to work or school in three to four days.
Can I choose to have only a Breast Lift (without implants), or a Breast Augmentation (without a lift)?
Yes, patients have the option of choosing either procedure separately. However, raising the breasts to a higher position will not replace lost volume; and adding just an implant will not correct lax tissue, therefore the new, heavier tissue will cause the breasts to move further down on the chest.
