Conveniently located to serve Newport Beach
Blepharoptosis now has a non-surgical treatment option using Upneeq in Newport Beach. Upneeq is an eye drop specially formulated to help lift droopy eyelids. Though the results are not as permanent as invasive procedures, it brings about noticeable effects after the first treatment. Drooping eyelids not only make patients look aged and tired, but can also hinder vision.
What Is Upneeq?
Upneeq is an FDA-approved ophthalmic solution for acquired ptosis in adults and consists primarily of 0.1% oxymetazoline hydrochloride. This ingredient triggers the Muller’s (levator palpebrae) muscle to contract, thus raising the eyelid. The average amount of lift is 1mm which is medically or cosmetically beneficial to most patients. It opens up a safer option for patients who may not be ideal candidates for eyelid surgery.
Am I a Good Candidate for Upneeq?
Ideal candidates for Upneeq treatments are patients in good overall health with moderate to severe ptosis. Upneeq is only recommended for adult patients and children 13 years or older. The treatment has contraindications with monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Caution must be given to patients who have cardiovascular and neurological conditions. Upneeq may affect blood pressure and can interact with prescription drugs, herbal supplements, and vitamins.
Your Upneeq will be performed in Dr. Robert Kessler's surgery center located in Corona Del Mar.
In order to ascertain your compatibility with Upneeq eye drops, a consultation will be required. A physical examination of your eyes will be performed. A discussion of your medical history including underlying health conditions and current medications will be conducted to assess your risk factors. You will be given specific instructions on the proper dosage and application once you are determined to be compatible with Upneeq treatments.
Upneeq Eye Drops Application
Upneeq is packaged as single-use eye drops. To apply, tilt your head slightly backward and pull down on your eyelid. This creates a pocket that will hold the drop of liquid effectively. Squeeze a drop on your eye, then close your eyes for a minute or two. Repeat this process on the other eye. Make sure to wash your hands before applying the medication.
Do not apply the dropper or touch the tip directly on your eye to avoid injury or infection. Store the containers upright and throw away used ones even with the remaining liquid inside. Only use one drop on each eye, once a day. Apply 15 minutes before putting in your contact lenses.
After applying Upneeq eye drops, there is no recovery or downtime required. You may experience redness, itching, or slight pain at the time of use but these should not persist. You are able to resume your normal activities right away.
How Much Does Upneeq Cost?
The cost of your Upneeq treatments depend on your expected outcome and length of usage. The overall price will be impacted by how long you plan to use the eye drops as a treatment for drooping eyelids. There are 30-day and 45-day supply packages you can choose from.
