Lower Body Lift
A lower body lift is a circumferential cosmetic surgical procedure to remove excess fat and skin from the abdomen, hips, thighs and buttocks. This combines a traditional tummy tuck with a lift of the outer thighs and buttocks. Significant fluctuations in weight, single or multiple pregnancies or even certain medications can cause characteristic changes to our skin and the contours of the body. The circumferential procedure allows for 360 degree correction of the core.
Ideal candidates for this procedure are individuals who have lost the excess weight and are close to the ideal body weight but are now suffering from loose or sagging skin of the abdomen, thighs and buttocks. A lower body lift can provide dramatic results for patients looking to improve appearance, restore the youthful position of the abdominal muscles, flatten their tummy, raise their buttock and rejuvenate their core body contour.
The lower body lift operation takes between five and six hours and is performed under general anesthesia. The surgical incisions are placed within garment lines starting from the top of the gluteal crease around the hips then joining a traditional tummy tuck incision.
Excess fatty tissue and skin are removed and the remaining tissues are advanced and supported with layered sutures. It is common for Dr. Kessler to place drainage tubes at the incision sites to collect excess fluids.
All my patients go to an aftercare facility and are brought to my office the following morning before returning home. Compression garments are applied to control post-operative swelling and minimize bruising.
Your Lower Body Lift will be performed in Dr. Robert Kessler's surgery center located in Corona Del Mar.
Recovery times vary among patients as individual anatomy and procedures differ. The first four days you are in a stooped posture to minimize tension on the suture lines. By day five you are in a vertical posture and the surgical drains are removed. Suture removal occurs on day five and again on day ten.
The activity level should be minimal during the first week. Dr Kessler will gradually liberalize your activity with each visit over the course of the month. You may return to work by ten days to two weeks. Normal activity can resume after five to six weeks.

- 01 What is a Body Lift procedure?
A Body Lift, also known as a Belt Lipectomy, is a plastic surgery procedure designed to restore a beautiful contour to the torso, through the elimination of excess skin and fatty tissue.
- 02 How is the Body Lift performed?
To begin the Body Lift, Dr. Kessler will make a circumferential incision around the belt-line (above the buttocks, around the abdomen and lower back). Through this incision, he will remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen, lower back, and hips. Dr. Kessler may include Liposuction at this point. He will then reposition the muscles and tissues to a taut, smooth contour; suturing the incisions for proper healing.
- 03 Who is a good candidate for the Body Lift procedure?
Both men and women, in good health, with reasonable surgical expectations, can make an excellent Body Lift candidate.
- 04 Where is the Body Lift performed?
Dr. Kessler performs surgery at a nearby accredited outpatient Surgery Center. The Body Lift will require a one to two night hospital stay, to increase a patient’s comfort level.
- 05 What type of anesthesia is used during a Body Lift?
General anesthesia will be used during a Body Lift procedure.
- 06 How long is a Body Lift?
A Body Lift will take between four and six hours to complete.
- 07 What can I expect during the recovery from a Body Lift procedure?
Patients should expect their recovery time from a Body Lift to take between two and three weeks. Initially, patients will experience a moderate level of discomfort. Dr. Kessler will prescribe appropriate pain medications to keep patients resting comfortably at home. Swelling, bruising, and temporary numbness may also occur; these will resolve over the next several weeks.
A compression garment will be needed for the first few weeks; this reduces swelling, as well as promotes proper healing. Drain tubes will reduce the fluid level. Strenuous activities and exercise should wait for four to six weeks after the Body Lift procedure.
- 08 When can I return to work after my Body Lift?
Patients generally feel well enough to return to work ten to fourteen days after a Body Lift procedure.
- 09 Will there be scarring after my Body Lift?
Yes, there will be a visible scar after a Body Lift. This will run circumferentially around the body. While this will fade somewhat over the years, it will remain visible, although the scar can be well concealed under clothing.
- 10 What are the risks involved with the Body Lift procedure?
A Body Lift procedure is considered extremely safe. As it is an invisible procedure, there remains the risk for complications. These can include scarring, excessive bleeding, improper wound healing, and infection.
- 11 Can I finance my Body Lift?
Medical financing is available through CareCredit. Patients are encouraged to call Kessler Plastic Surgery for more information, or visit carecredit.com to apply online. Dr. Kessler also accepts cash and all major credit cards.
Dr. Kessler is the most caring doctor I have ever met.
The minute he walked into the examination room for my initial consult I liked him and it continues EVERY time I see him.
I had a lower body lift and my arms done. I am so happy with his work. He is a perfectionist and it shows. I am so comfortable with him and I know that when I am in surgery I am in good hands. I am having a breast lift w/ implants on the 20th of Feb and I know I will be as happy then as I am now. Dr Kessler has the best bed side manner and he is very highly recommended. 2/26/06 I have now had 4 surgeries with Dr. Kessler. My last one being a breast lift with implants. I am so happy with all the surgeries I have had with Dr. Kessler. I wanted to combine a couple of surgeries and he told me why he would rather not and I am really glad I listened to him.
With Dr. Kessler you are more than just a patient to him. He really cares. Again, I would recommend him to anyone.
If you read this Dr. Kessler, thank you from the bottom of my heart you have really changed my life.
