Ellacor or microneedling: Both of these innovative skin-rejuvenation treatments are minimally invasive techniques used to stimulate collagen production, improving skin laxity, wrinkles, scars, and hyperpigmentation. The two procedures may seem very similar, so which is best for you?
The answer is different for every patient depending on a variety of factors. The following information may help you choose the most ideal option for you.
How Does Ellacor Work?
During an Ellacor treatment, the device uses tiny hollow tubes for micro-coring into the dermal layers of skin tissue. This removes minute columns of tissue.
The perforations are strategically placed so that there are bridges of untreated skin in between. During the healing process, the layers of skin tissue pull tighter on either side of the bridge, creating a firmer and tighter texture.
How Does Microneedling Work?
During a microneedling treatment, the device uses incredibly fine needles to pierce the dermal layers of skin tissue. The microneedling device is moved across the treatment area to create a grid of treatment points. During the healing process for these treatment points, new collagen protein is created for tighter skin.
How Are Ellacor and Microneedling Similar?
Both microneedling and Ellacor work on the principle of collagen induction therapy, or CIT. Collagen induction therapy is the foundation of effectiveness for most non-surgical skin-rejuvenation treatments.
CIT involves triggering the body’s natural healing process, causing the tissues to increase collagen production at an advanced rate. This gives the skin a naturally smoother and firmer texture and a more youthful appearance.
Because of this, Ellacor and microneedling both effectively improve skin laxity, wrinkles, and texture anomalies such as acne scars or other texture deficits.
Additionally, both treatments are only minimally invasive and involve no scalpels, incisions, or scarring of any kind. They are both viewed as non-surgical facelifts that can produce aesthetic results that appear more natural-looking than traditional surgical techniques. Unlike surgery, neither option requires a long period of downtime.
How Are Ellacor and Microneedling Different?
The extraction of very small amounts of tissue that happens during Ellacor treatment may achieve a better result than microneedling for cases of moderate to significant skin laxity and wrinkles. Microneedling is typically more ideal for subtler skin laxity.
Microneedling has been proven safe for skin types that are light to dark in color tones. Until more research is done, Ellacor is not recommended for medium-dark to darker skin tones.
Are Ellacor and Microneedling Safe?
The FDA has approved micro-coring and microneedling as effective and safe non-surgical treatments within their respective applications. To ensure patient safety, micro-coring, and microneedling procedures should only be performed by qualified skincare practitioners.
To help prevent any complications, a consultation before treatment is necessary. During the consultation, the patient’s skin type, tone, and tissue structure will be evaluated. The patient’s medical history will be reviewed, including history of scarring. Any recent sun exposure and tanning bed use should also be discussed.
