Juvederm is a wonderful product if you’re looking to make aesthetic changes to your face and do it in a low-risk and long-lasting way. Juvederm is a facial filler. Whereas products like Botox paralyze nerves to create a relaxed, wrinkle-free appearance, Juvederm leverages the power of volume to create a healthy, more youthful look.
Juvederm is such an exceptional product because it’s replacing naturally-occurring elements in your body, such as collagen and the protein hyaluronic acid (HA), with like substances. Collagen and HA are found naturally in your body—these give your face a youthful, rounded appearance, smooth away fine lines, and add volume to areas such as your cheeks and along the sides of your nose. Because of this, the body recognizes Juvederm as its own, meaning, it doesn’t view it as a foreign substance. This makes Juvederm an extremely safe product.
Juvederm is a product line consisting of three separate products, from thin substances like Juvederm Ultra to thicker, Juvederm Ultra Plus and lastly, the densest filler, Juvederm Voluma. An appropriate filler, or blend of fillers, are used in concert to artistically create the look you desire.
How does Juvederm work, and where is Juvederm applied?
There are seven major facial fat pads. These areas add volume to your face, give it its shape and give you a healthy, hydrated appearance. But as you age, your fat pads tend to decrease in size. This causes the skin to lose volume. While this is natural, an undesirable side effect is that this can create a deeper base to your nose, giving it an almost sunken appearance. Your cheek bones—which you may have tried to accentuate for years—become more prominent. And the corners of your mouth may form lines and take on a heavy appearance. Additionally, banding can form in the neck.
Juvederm provide volume where it has been lost. Adding volume, artistically and in key areas can not only “plump” sunken areas but can also adjust the shape and structure of your face. Juvederm Ultra Plus can be injected into the lip, adding volume to the lips for that pouty look so many wish for, as well as used around the lip to change and support the structure itself. Juvederm Ultra Plus is also often used in the jowl area to blend out lines. Using the thinnest filler, Ultra, is a popular choice for under the eyes to create a more youthful look, adding volume where the delicate skin there may start to fold. If you start Juvederm at an earlier age, it’s likely you can use the Ultra or Ultra Plus in more places as you may not yet require the densest filler, Voluma.
Voluma, however, provides the most lifting power. You can transform the areas of the nasal fold, add volume and round out your cheeks. Another benefit of Voluma, beyond lift, is that it is the longest lasting of all the products.
How long does Juvederm last?
In general, Juvederm is a long-lasting facial filler, but the lasting power of Juvederm varies depending on which product is used and the location of the injections. Injections in areas that are less mobile will last longer—your body will take more time to absorb the filler. On the low end of the range for products like Ultra and Ultra Plus, injected into your eye lid and lips, you’ll be able to enjoy these for six to eight months. On the other end of the range, the thick filler Voluma in a less mobile area can last up to 18 months!
How much is Juvederm? And is Juvederm really worth the cost?
Juvederm is an exceptional product. It’s natural, it’s long-lasting and it’s affordable. Juvederm is typically priced by the syringe, considered industry standard. Juvederm Ultra may be in the $500-$600 range per syringe whereas the Voluma is typically priced around $1,000.
Juvederm is a great option for those who do not want to opt for permanent surgical procedures. Plus, it’s an option for those wishing to see immediate, high-impact results. Many patients are amazed by the changes they see right there in the doctor’s office, as well as a few days after the injections, once the fillers have settled in even more smoothly and naturally. And it’s a safe option for those who are considering making an investment in themselves and looking to feel more confident, but are not sure where to start.
Finally, one of the greatest benefits of Juvederm is that it’s reversible! If you receive injections and are not satisfied with your new appearance, you’re not stuck with the changes for the next year. Your doctor can inject an enzyme and it will help Juvederm dissolve—allowing you to return to the same appearance as you were when you walked into the doctor’s office in the first place. And if you choose to not continue with your Juvederm treatments when they expire? It’s not a big deal, as your body will absorb the filler slowly and your face will take on its natural appearance, as if you had not received the filler in the first place.
