Artistry and Caring for a Masterpiece Called You

Eyelid surgery

The eyes are one of the first features others notice about a person’s appearance. Although men have the advantage of getting better looking as they age, heavy eyelids dramatically impact the aged appearance of the face. When the eyebrow descends excess skin appears on the upper lids. This can actually limit ones peripheral vision. In the lower lids not only can skin sag but fat pads become prominent making you look not only older but tired.
Eyelid surgery on the upper and/or lower lids can brighten the face and make a you look more rested naturally.

BLEPHAROPLASTY SURGERY

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can correct sagging and drooping skin and tighten muscles of the lower lids. Fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid may be diminished along with bags under the eyes. Excess deposits of fat in the upper and lower eyelids can be removed, reducing that puffy appearance. Once treated, a person can look years younger by simply addressing the all-important eye region.

Upper Blepharoplasty can be an in-office procedure performed with local anesthesia. Surgery typically takes 45 minutes to an hour, though more time is needed for cases where a large amount of tissue needs correction. Incisions are well concealed within the natural folds of the eyelids.

Through the incisions, fat can be repositioned or removed, muscles and tissue can be tightened, and excess skin can be excised. Incisions are typically closed with fine sutures. Blepharoplasty may be performed in conjunction with a browlift or facelift for additional facial rejuvenation. The procedure is also frequently combined with BOTOX® treatments to minimize the appearance of wrinkles or crow’s feet around the eyes.

Recovering from eye surgery

Swelling and bruising will occur after eyelid surgery but is limited and generally gone by 5-7 days. Once subsided, patients are able to see the result of the procedure, including less heavy or puffy looking eyelids and a more alert appearance.

Many notice an increased visual field and more light entering the eyes without the need to strain. Until swelling is gone, keeping the head elevated and the use of cold compresses can help to reduce puffiness.

There is typically little pain associated with blepharoplasty, but Dr Kessler is able to prescribe medication to control discomfort. Many patients are able to continue light activity in as little as three days, though strenuous activity should be avoided for two weeks. Stitches are removed on postoperative day 5.
+^01 What is a Blepharoplasty?
A Blepharoplasty, otherwise known as an Eyelid Lift, is a surgical procedure designed to restore a youthful appearance to the eye area. By removing excess skin and bulging fat from either the upper or lower eyelid, the signs of aging can be dramatically improved.
+^02 How is a Blepharoplasty performed?
To perform the Upper Lid Blepharoplasty, Dr. Kessler will begin with a small incision in the crease of the upper eyelid; for a Lower Lid Blepharoplasty, he will make a tiny incision on the inside of the lower eyelid, or below the lower lashes. Once the incisions have been made, Dr. Kessler will excise excess fat and skin, repositioning the remaining tissue for a youthful appearance. The incisions are then sutured closed.
+^03 Who is a good candidate for a Blepharoplasty?
Both men and women, in generally good health, frustrated by their sagging, puffy eye area can make an excellent candidate for Blepharoplasty.
+^04 Where is the Blepharoplasty performed?
Dr. Kessler performs surgery at a nearby accredited outpatient Surgery Center.
+^05 What type of anesthesia is used during a Blepharoplasty?
The Blepharoplasty is performed under a local anesthetic with sedation.
+^06 Where are the incisions made from Eyelid Surgery?
An Upper Lid Blepharoplasty consists of a very small incision along the crease of the eyelid. A Lower Lid Blepharoplasty is comprised of a short incision on the inside of the lower lid, or below the lower lash line. Patients often use a combination of the Upper and Lower Eyelid Lift, therefore both sets of incisions are necessary.
+^07 How long is an Eyelid Lift procedure?
Depending on the extent of the needed procedure, an Eyelid Surgery will take between one and two hours to complete.
+^08 What can I expect from the Blepharoplasty recovery?
Patients should plan for the recovery after their Eyelid Lift to take between one and two weeks. Redness, bruising, and swelling will likely occur, but will fade over the first two to three weeks.
+^09 When can I return to work after Eyelid Surgery?
Patients normally feel well enough, and are comfortable with the look of their eyes, to return to work or school in seven to ten days.
+^10 Will there be scarring after my Blepharoplasty?
There are tiny scars left from the Blepharoplasty procedure. Dr. Kessler will make sure these are well concealed within the natural creases of the eyes.
+^11 What are the risks of a Blepharoplasty?
An Eyelid Lift is considered a safe and effective surgical procedure. As it is invasive, there are certain risks; these include infection, bleeding, scarring, ectropion, and blindness.
+^12 Can I finance my Eyelid Surgery?
For the convenience of our patients, healthcare financing is possible through CareCredit. Kessler Plastic Surgery also accepts cash and all major credit cards; contact our office for more details.
