Medical Reasons
Dr. Kessler has decades of experience in crafting artful, optimized procedures for those considering breast surgery for medical reasons—such as chronic back pain from overly developed breasts or reconstructive purposes following a mastectomy.
Recovery following breast surgery varies based on each individual case. Most women find they are able to return to work between one and three weeks after undergoing a breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction. Breast reconstruction recovery can take several weeks; common side effects include swelling, bruising, and some discomfort.
The following breast procedures
Breast Augmentation (mammoplasty) – The most common plastic surgery procedure, breast augmentation, is designed to enhance the volume and shape of the breasts through implants. Saline or silicone gel implants of various sizes may be used determined by the patient’s aesthetic and physical needs.
Breast Lift (mastopexy) – Age, genetics, pregnancy, breast feeding, and changes in weight can contribute to a loss of volume and sagging in the breasts. Implants alone cannot restore the profile of the breast once the skin has become stretched and begun to droop. Breast lift elevates the breasts to a more youthful, natural position.
Breast Reduction (reduction mammoplasty) – Overly large breasts can cause several problems for women, including chronic back pain, neck pain, discomfort from bra straps digging into the skin, difficulty breathing, and self-consciousness. During breast reduction excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed to create a new contour that is both aesthetically pleasing and more comfortable for the patient.
Breast Reconstruction – Performed on patients who have undergone a partial or full mastectomy or lumpectomy, breast reconstruction restores the breasts to their original form while increasing confidence during a difficult time.
Breast Revision – When a woman undergoes breast surgery, the end goal is for her to be happy with the results. There are instances when the end result isn’t quite what the patient anticipated, though. Unsatisfactory results can be evident immediately after the first surgery or can develop over time as the woman ages and changes occur in the body.
Breast revision surgery seeks to repair the issues with the breasts, whether those issues are problems with firmness, rippled implants, asymmetry or other concerns. The development of excess scar tissue or a ruptured implant may also require revision surgery.
Fat Grafting to the Breasts – Women seeking breast augmentation often choose between saline or silicone gel implants. While plenty of women are happy with the results they get from implants, some women don’t want to or aren’t able to use implants. Those who would like to add contour and volume to the breasts without implants have the option of using fat grafting.
Fat grafting can add up to one cup size to the breasts as well as improve the overall shape of the breasts or fix asymmetry. The procedure involves removing fat from one area of the body, usually the thighs, then purifying it. The fat is then injected into the breast area, without the need for an incision.
