Juvederm Voluma XC
Some facial fat, such as that which forms in the jowls, can create an older appearance and is considered undesirable. However, in the cheeks, fat pads are what contribute to a youthful look. When they are no longer prominent, we want them back.
Voluma is a deep facial filler that is FDA-approved for improving submalar or mid-face volume when a deficiency in the fat pads of the cheeks occurs. Facial volume loss occurs at and below the cheekbones with age as collagen production slows. Women and men between the ages of 30 and 40 and in good physical health are typically the best candidates for the procedure.
Voluma is a smooth gel filler composed of hyaluronic acid which has been cross-linked using Vycross technology. As a result, the hyaluronic acid restores moisture to the mid-face while the viscous gel allows the cheek region to be lifted and sculpted with refined definition.*
How Voluma Is Used
Injections of Voluma are performed in the office setting. The length of the procedure is about 20 minutes. Anesthesia is not necessary for the non-invasive procedure since the local anesthetic lidocaine is included in the mixture.* A fine needle injects the filler into the deep layers of the facial tissue in order to provide the most natural-looking lift. Dr. Kessler uses advanced techniques to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for his patients.
Voluma is only intended for use in the mid-face and cheeks, unlike other facial fillers which may be used in the lips and wrinkles around the mouth, eyes, and forehead. If treatments for these areas are also desired then other fillers will be needed in addition to Voluma. The subtle lift provided by Voluma may also help reduce wrinkles in the mid-face region, however.*
The benefits of Voluma are seen immediately after injection. Minor swelling may be noticeable by the patient for the first 48 hours after the procedure.* Despite mild side effects, patients can return to work immediately afterwards.* Exercise and laborious activity should be avoided for 24 hours but may then be resumed.*
Voluma is long lasting and has been reported to last about 18 months, with some patients experiencing continued natural-looking rejuvenation of the cheeks for up to 2 years.*
Other potential complications associated with Voluma are bruising and irregularities in the treatment site. Fortunately, should the cheeks become distorted, the gel substance can be dissolved to correct the problem. Bruising is temporary and will subside on its own.*

Juvederm Voluma XC FAQs
How Much Does Voluma Cost?
Juvederm Voluma is a long-lasting facial filler that offers a great non-surgical alternative to facial surgery. It is usually priced around $1,000 per syringe, which is the industry standard.
Is Juvederm Voluma Reversible?
A great benefit of Voluma is that the treatment is reversible. If a patient decides that they are not completely satisfied with their new look, Dr. Kessler can inject an enzyme into the treated area, completely dissolving the filler and thereby allowing the patient to return to how they looked before they began their treatments.
Is the Voluma Treatment Painful?
Most patients report that the Juvederm Voluma treatment process is easily tolerable. The filler has a small amount of numbing agents in it which helps to sooth any discomfort. Additionally, a numbing cream is applied to the treated area before the injection occurs, which helps to alleviate some pain.
Is Juvederm Voluma Safe?
Voluma is an FDA approved injectable that is made from a complex sugar that is naturally occurring in the human body, which generally makes it a safe treatment option. As with any cosmetic treatment there are some risks/side effects. Some patients may experience some redness, pain or swelling, but this should subside quickly. During your consultation Dr. Kessler will review your medical history, allergies, and skin type to determine if you are a good candidate for this treatment. Patient safety and comfort is a number one priority for our team.
